[Abstract]
The radiator, as a critical element in successful microwave hyperthermia treatment for cancer , is actually a microwave antenna working in close field , which can send microwave energy to cancer cell and fever it to the proper temperature. Radiator is classified by the part in hyperthermia treatment: external radiator, intracavitary radiator and invasive radiator. The cylindrical intracavitary radiator has been used widely in hyperthermia treatment for cancer in-body. Helical antenna and dipole antenna fit in with this kind of radiator. The development of microwave medical technology is contacted with the progress of radiators. Microwave medical radiators, especially the invasive and intracavitary microwave radiators, provide a new method for treatment of cancer . At present, the radiators used in microwave hyperthermia treatment for cancer got more attention. These years, microwave hyperthermia treatment is applied to rectal cancer .Temperature is the main problem we must take into account in hyperthermia treatment for rectal cancer. It is required that a radiator with temperature sensor must be manufactured. In this paper, study of a intracavitary radiator for microwave hyperthermia treatment of rectal cancer has been done.Firstly, the mechanism of microwave hyperthermia treatment for cancer and it’s development has been presented. Following problems about radiator has been discussed : the basic theory , designing method, classification, application in cancer treatment, the main content and trend of study on it. Then, a representational scheme of a intracavitary radiator for microwave hyperthermia treatment of rectal cancer has been presented by the author. The aim at testing the temperature while treating has achieved by the way that put the normal helix antenna designed by the author and the insulating aromored thermocouple shielded from microwave field together into the same catheter. It was indicated by the experimental results that the performances of the radiator accords with the demand for the treatment, including the temperature field distribution and the temperature rising characteristic.According to the demand of the study on radiator, a microwave instrument system for cancer treatment which power can be controlled, has been designed by the <WP=6>author. A kind of booster make it possible controlling the power of the magnetron by using single-chip computer in the power supply system of the magnetron. To make use of the microwave energy from the magnetron, an output coupling cavity of the magnetron has been designed by the author.
