Radiator Testing? - MX-5 Miata Forum

Whatever it is, you NEED to get it checked ASAP. If your engine overheats it can cause major damage. Most shops will have a pressure tester. The charge isn't to bad to have it checked.

But finding a radiator leak isn't usually to hard just by looking. One thing that's easy to check is your overflow bottle. Fill it to the full mark. Once a day, after you drive enough to heat the car fully, check the level. If it's getting lower you have a leak.

With the engine running and warm, look around the hoses, the water pump and inside the cabin on the passenger side floor. You're going to be able to see any leak. If it's the heater core you'll feel the carpet wet on the passenger floor. If you have 100K+ expect it to be the waterpump. If you have an oil leak from the valve cover gasket near the drivers side rear of the head you may have compromised heater hoses.
