As a regular user of Hammerite paint over the past 30 years or so, I was delighted to see that they now made a paint specifically for radiators. However, I was very disappointed with the performance of this paint, which is greatly inferior to conventional Hammerite. I think this is pronbably because it’s water based rather than oil based. Original Hammerite would paint over any old rubbush, even rust, but despite stripping back the radiator to bare metal and removing all visible traces of rust, it still took 4 coats before rust spots stopped showing on the surface of the paint. I then foolishly draped a damp towel over the radiator only to find that after removal rust spots were again showing. I contacted the manufacturers who replied promptly, but said that I must have not removed all the rust before painting. Well, I got off all visible rust,and I chose Hammerite because of it’s reputation for covering anything. I was wrong and I won’t be using this product again.
